Romantic Venice has plenty of wonderful unique events on offer. There is the Orient Express, Historical Regatta boat race, Redentore Fireworks, La Fenice Opera House and New Year celebrations.
However, with so many people arriving for their Venice trip each season, knowing what to include can be a real challenge. Italian Short Breaks take the stress out of this by organising tailor-made itineraries to suit you. This includes a combination of private guided tours and time with your Venice Pass Card, which beats the queues whilst also providing access to the main St Mark’s sites.
Even arriving in Venice can be an experience when you can travel from London to Venice with the Orient Express, before even beginning your Venetian adventure!
Venice Trip Events
Venice is the floating city with something for everyone. Here is a list of the main Venice trips which Italian Short Breaks offer:La Fenice
La Fenice is Venice’s grand opera house and well worth a trip. Venice is the perfect setting for the stunning opera house which regularly plays to sell out audiences, includes pieces from the well-known La Traviata for the opera fan, to the more dedicated opera lover pieces including “Othello” and “The Happy Deception.” It is also the venue for the New Year Concert. Operas take place most months of the year.New Year Venice Trip
For those wanting to celebrate the old and the new, spend your New Year’s Eve in this romantic city, with a New Year Concert and a special live entertainment dinner. For the daytime we include for your Venice trip a St Mark’s Venice Card. This card includes free access to the Basilica and Doges Palace, and also more importantly enhances your Venice trip by facilitating you missing the long queues. Redentore Fireworks Venice Trip
This event sees a ride along the canals by gondola while witnessing the locals in their decorative boats. This in in honour of celebrating the end of the 1567 plague which destroyed quarter of the Venetian inhabitants. Watch the skyline of St Mark’s being lit up with fireworks in your gondola. We have numerous breaks for just this event! Redentore normally takes place in July.Regatta Boat Race Venice Trip
On this day, Venice again takes to the water for a race down the Grand Canal in 16th century boats. This is in honour of the Serenissima (the early Venetian Republic), along with raising awareness of Venice’s maritime heritage. The Regatta takes place in September, which means a cooler Venice trip for those not wanting to be outside in the midsummer sun. The Regatta takes place annually ensuring a once in a lifetime trip. Venice Trip Activities
Other fantastic Venice trip activities include using your St Mark’s Card to gain free access to the Doges Palace and the Basilica. The Doges Palace has a wealth of history including paintings of Doge’s past, (head of Venetian state) and ancient maps showing the Venetian empire, along with the Bridge of Sighs and the prison, which temporarily housed Casanova.
On the Islands Tour you visit Burano, Murano and Torcello, where the lace making and glass blowing takes place, before heading to Torcello for the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, one of the last remaining sites. Torcello was one of the first islands to be inhabited when the locals fled from Attila the Hun. After Torcello the boat heads back completing your Venice trip. Venice Trip Hotels
Both the hotels we recommend are centrally located meaning you are right in the heart of Venice for your Venice trip.
Hotel Bonvecchiati is a 4 star hotel located just off St Mark’s Square and has refined elegance, and its own water pier for gondolas and watertaxis. They are hosting their first Valentine’s dinner, and are also the venue for our New Year Venice trip which includes the New Year dinner and live entertainment in their restaurant.
Hotel Metropole is a five star hotel overlooking the lagoon, with views over San Giorgio Island. This hotel is perfect for your Venice trip having been decorated to a very high finish. There are candles, perfumes and incense to create the evocative mood. The higher tier rooms offer lagoon views. The Met Restaurant, housed within the hotel has its own Michelin Star Chef who creates true Venetian delicacies for you to sample. Venice Trip Extensions
