Venice Orient Express holiday

The Venice Simplon Orient Express is probably the most well-known train journey in the world. Travelling in opulent style as you leave the UK, and journeying through Paris before the scenic Alps, is certainly hard to beat.

Delight in the Art Deco design which harkens back to the Roaring Twenties. The vintage cabins are finished to a very high standard with opulent interiors, and a great view of the scenic countryside.

These carriages include 3 restaurant cars and live evening entertainment, along with fine gastronomic dining and a superb service. The entertainment cars are great for socialising with like-minded travellers, all enjoying a more relaxing way to reach their destination.

Having alighted from Venice Santa Lucia Station, your Venice Orient Express holiday is only halfway through however! Once you arrive in Venice there is certainly a great many wonderful places to visit, to keep up with the once in a lifetime experience you have had so far. There is La Fenice Opera House, which is incredibly ornate and richly designed, as well as showcasing some of the best operas in the world. For first-timers to Venice, St Mark’s Square is an absolute must. A few hours wandering through the Doges Palace and the Basilica, before a relaxing cappuccino at Caffe Florian, is a great way to spend half a day. There are of course a wealth of wonderful churches and museums to visit, and shops and stalls to browse.

For those returners to Venice, a trip around the main islands of Burano, Murano and Torcello is an excellent addition, as you get to see first-hand glass blowing and lace decoration, along with Torcello – one of the first populated islands after the people fled from Attila the Hun. Most of the main church, Santa Maria Assunta which was built in 639 still survives to this day.

If romance is on the agenda, why not spend part of your Venice Orient Express holiday enjoying a sunset gondola ride; seeing Venice as it is meant to be seen travelling through the canals.

One thing is for sure – The Venice Simplon Orient Express is an excellent luxury gateway into Venice, and you are experiencing two truly iconic settings!

About Hannah Netting

Hannah has had the travel bug from an early age where she was fortunate enough to travel widely, including a four month trip around the world. For her experiencing new cultures, sights and wonders was very important.

Lately her focus has been heavily on Italy enhanced by many wonderful trips including Verona, Venice, Top to Toe, Florence, amongst many others. In Venice she got lost in true Venetian style and got to experience the amazing acoustics of the Verona Arena. Currently Florence is her favourite, but this can always change! With plenty on offer in Italy, it will keep her entertained for many more trips to come!
