Tuscan Dream & Siena Palio holiday
I’m very happy to announce we now have a new break! We have quite a few clients who decide as they are in the region when the Siena Palio horse race takes place, to stay and witness this historical event. We have a break which incorporates your Siena Palio holiday, along with time staying in a beautiful 5 star hotel located right in the Chianti Tuscan region.
Hotel Le Fontanelle is a 20 minute drive to the centre of Siena, and only 90 minute from Florence airport and 2 hours from Pisa airport. This break includes car hire meaning you have the time to enjoy the beautiful scenic countryside in between. Once you arrive at the hotel you have a room with a view, indoor and outdoor pools, spa and a host of wonderful activities. We have focused this break on something for everyone ranging from wine tasting and town tours for those new to the area, along with hot air balloon rides, picnics and medieval dinners for the regular Chianti visitors.
Built into the schedule is a tour of the incredibly beautiful Brolio Castle which sits in a vast landscaped garden setting. Once you have enjoyed the tour, there is a wine tasting of some of their locally produced Chianti label wines, followed by a lunch. With all the wine on offer, the only dilemma you will have is choosing which one best suits your meal!
On day three you can choose from a whole range of activities including heading to Siena to witness the Palio trials where the jockeys and horses are chosen for the Palio race the next day, enjoying your small group guiding introduction to the Palio along the way, and finishing with the good luck Contrada (district) open-air dinner. Alternatively you can enjoy a picnic, head to San Gimignano, take a cooking class, go horse riding, hot air balloon over the region, race a Ferrari on a test drive track, or enjoy a medieval dinner in one of the original San Gimignano towers, where you are serenaded on arrival by an opera singer and enjoy dining on a terrace. Alternatively if you would prefer, you can stay at the hotel and enjoy the swimming pool and spa treatments. As with all of our Italian short breaks, these trips are very flexible, so if you want to add days or take them out, this is very possible too.
On day four you head in your small group to Siena where you get to see the street parades and the Carabinieri on horseback open the event on the square, before the Palio race begins. This bare-back racing has taken place for around 700 years, and takes place only twice a year on always the same dates – the 02 July and the 16 August. We have a range of viewing positions to make your Siena Palio holiday complete, which include Grandstand positions very near to the track and seated with the locals, balcony positions so you are higher up to view the action, or windows which have access to refreshments and bathroom facilities.
This Siena Palio holiday is perfect for celebrating a special occasion, having some time back with nature in an idyllic location, or indulging your wanderlust for a new experience. With regular flights into both Florence and Pisa airport, and only around 2hrs flying time from the UK, this break ticks all the boxes!
